Can Running Cure Depression?
Recent research confirms my experience that running is a very powerful anti-depressant. Many studies have shown that running or other types of endurance exercise are just as good if not better than ani-depressant medication, without the negative side effects. Continue reading

Soda Consumption Linked to Depression
This may come as no surprise to most of you, but a new study just released by the National Institute of Health (NIH), shows that the consumption of sweetened beverages (sodas, iced teas and fruit ‘juices’) leads to an increased risk for developing depression. Continue reading

New Year’s Resolutions – Part I – Warming To The Cold
The beginning of a new year always gets people to think about fresh starts and new beginnings. Feeling the accumulated burden of a year’s worth of not so great decisions, many people vow to take back their life in the form of New Year’s Resolutions. The majority of Americans will make a New Year’s Resolution, but only a tiny minority of them will actually follow through and honor their resolution. Continue reading

On this glorious, rainy, Vermont Winter day, I found myself facing two very large obstacles, which inspired these thoughts on overcoming impossible obstacles on your path… Continue reading
How To Get Outside On Cold Rainy Winter Days
The weather outside is frightful, but I’m not going to sit here and feel spiteful. Instead, I’m going to follow a process that I’ve taught myself over the past few years, that helps to get me dressed, out the door and into action. It hasn’t failed yet. Perhaps you can apply these tools to the gray rainy days and challenges of your life. Continue reading

Getting Started #56 – Perfectionism
It’s been a rough day at the end of a rough week. After slowly dying for the past two years, my trusty computer finally exhaled it’s final breath. Since a great deal of what I do takes place on the computer, this put me in a panic. I know this state well, as I’ve spent good portions of my adult life dealing with overwhelm, anxiety and panic. Continue reading

Getting Started #53 – Defeating Goliath
It’s been a while since I’ve made a video and some of you may have guessed that if you don’t
see a video from me for a while, it means that the ‘sheep’ has hit the fan. It’s been tough.
Wow. I’m getting ready for the World Championships, keeping my training up, dealing with
everything else in my life, and dealing with depression… Continue reading
Thanks giving Chicago style
There are many things that I am thankful for. But at this moment one opportunity stands out in my mind. It was November of 2006. I was in Chicago to coach the fledgling Run Raw Team in their first raw Chicago Marathon. As far as we knew at the time, no team of raw, vegan athletes had ever been assembled to compete in an event. Continue reading

The Little Death – How To Get Through Fall Without Falling
After a wonderful trip to Los Angeles I find myself back in Vermont, where I’m greeted by a brilliant display of Fall color. While the vast majority of the tourists clogging the arteries of the state see the foliage as sublime and poetic, I see it in another light… Or should I say ‘in another dark.’ Continue reading →
