Tim VanOrden’s Running Raw Update – May 11th, 2011
Another year has ticked by and I’m beginning my 43rd lap around the Sun. With a solid year of training and racing behind me, I’m entering into the 2011 USA Trail Running Championship Series in the best shape of my life. In the past few weeks, I’ve set two new lifetime PR’s and the season is just beginning. On May 14th, I’ll be attempting to defend my championship title at the U.S. 15k Trail Championships in Spokane, WA. Continue reading

NEW YORK CITY, NY (February 1st, 2011) – Tim Van Orden, 42, of Bennington, Vermont rose to the occasion at the 34th running of the Empire State Building Run Up on Tuesday morning with an exceptional 4th place finish. Van Orden was the top American finisher and won the Masters division for the second straight year, earning him the title of the ‘World’s fastest stair climber over the age of forty’. Continue reading
High Rise Heroes
Stair climbing is hard enough wearing a lightweight top, tiny shorts and 5 ounce shoes, but imagine doing it with 40 to 60 pounds of gear on! I have a LOT of respect for these guys. Someday I’d like to try a climb with that amount of weight on. Continue reading

Tim VanOrden’s Running Raw Times – October 15th, 2008
As a troubled teen, trying to find my place in the world, my father told me that “all glory is fleeting”. It was a quote from General George Patton, who was remarking on the lavish victory celebrations of ancient Rome. Continue reading

U.S. Bank Tower Stair Climb
You have probably all heard the old saying “Luck is where opportunity meets hard work.” Late this afternoon in a spartan stairwell in downtown Los Angeles, a combination of luck, opportunity and hard work came together in brilliant fashion. Continue reading

Climbing To The Top
With one of the biggest races in Running Raw history only three days away (US Bank Tower Stair Climb in Los Angeles on September 26th), I thought I’d keep you posted on my preparation for this monumental event – 76 storeys, 1,500 steps… Continue reading

Aon Center Stair Climb
For the first time in more than 10 years I found myself a visitor rather than a resident of the great city of Los Angeles. Mark Trahanovsky and his company, West Coast Labels had generously offered to fly me out to L.A. to compete in the final tower race of the season – a 62 storey, 858 foot climb to the top of the Aon Center. Continue reading

A 22 Storey Sprint
Planning is not my forté. In fact, I’m pretty darn awful at it. I had intended to compete in the 52 storey Climb California race in San Francisco. Last year I placed second in this event and was eager to come back and demonstrate my new fitness. That didn’t work out, so I decided on plan B – the 38 storey Climb Pittsburgh race. Well, that didn’t work out either, so I had to settle for plan C – a 22 storey climb at the University of Albany in Albany, NY. Third time’s a charm. Continue reading
