Van Orden named 2011 USA Masters Mountain Runner of the Year
After a year of stellar performances, Tim Van Orden, 43 of Bennington, Vermont was for the second year in a row named the USA Masters Mountain Runner of the Year. But the committee didn’t stop there. They also named Van Orden as the 2011 USA Masters Trail Runner of the Year. Continue reading

2011 USA Trail Series Champion
It’s been a long and expensive year of racing. My goal this year was to compete in all five of the U.S. Trail Running Series races, and with any luck, come in the top 5 overall. The series consists of the four U.S. Trail Championships at 10k, 15k, Half Marathon and Marathon, as well as the U.S. Mountain Running Championships. Continue reading

VanOrden wins 7th US Masters Title in the Marathon
Neither rain, nor sleet, nor snow could stop the competitors at the 2011 U.S. Trail Marathon Championships on Saturday. A record number of participants braved the weather and the terrain, including Bennington resident Tim Van Orden. Capping a stellar year on the trails, Van Orden, 43, raced to his seventh U.S. Masters Trail Running victory and a sixth place overall finish. Continue reading

Van Orden breaks record at Mt. Ashland Hill Climb
The idyllic town of Ashland, Oregon is known for three things; the award winning Oregon Shakespeare Festival, world famous Lithia Park, and one of the best ultra-running trail scenes on the planet. Among the many race offerings to be found here is the Mt. Ashland Hill Climb Run. This event boasts the second largest climb of any mountain running race in the United States. The course gains 5,700 feet in elevation (more than a vertical mile). Only the Pikes Peak Ascent in Colorado climbs higher. Continue reading

Van Orden Rises to the Top at the U.S. Mountain Running Championships

VanOrden Wins 5th U.S.A. Masters Trail Running Title
BEND, OREGON – (June 12th, 2011) – The U.S.A. Half Marathon Trail Championships held in conjunction with the 10th annual Foot Zone “Dirty Half”, kicked off to sunny, blue skies, a sold out field of 800 runners and some dominant performances on Sunday.
Max King of Bend proved that he is indeed the king of the U.S. trail running scene as he captured his 7th U.S.A. Trail Running Championship. King, who is also a member of the US Mountain Running Team and the 2010 World Trail Running Champion cruised to victory in a time of 1:14:44. Continue reading

VanOrden 1st American at Empire State Building Run Up
NEW YORK CITY, NY (February 1st, 2011) – Tim Van Orden, 42, of Bennington, Vermont rose to the occasion at the 34th running of the Empire State Building Run Up on Tuesday morning with an exceptional 4th place finish. Van Orden was the top American finisher and won the Masters division for the second straight year, earning him the title of the ‘World’s fastest stair climber over the age of forty’. Continue reading

The year 2010 can summed up in a single sentence – “As you sow, so shall you reap.” After five years of what seemed at times to be an exercise in futility, I actually have some results that I’m proud to share. The pride I feel is not based in my own egotistical needs for validation, but in the knowing that there is now rock solid evidence that one can reach the peak of athletic performance on a diet of simple fruits and vegetables.
