Weekly Training – 01/10/11 – 01/16/11
What started out as a very solid week of training, crashed and burned as I came down with a stomach bug Thursday afternoon. A combination of hard training, lack of sleep and stress have put me in a rather weakened state. Although I did well in the snowshoe race on Sunday, I could feel that it tapped my immune system and weakened me some more. Continue reading

Weekly Training – 01/03/11 – 01/09/11
The intense cross training regimen continues. My legs are tired every day, but I continue to get stronger and more fit every week. The Tabata leg press records that I’ve been setting, keep falling. I cannot wait to see what level of fitness I have this Spring when the mountain racing season begins. Continue reading

Weekly Training – 12/27/10 – 01/02/11
Thanks to the bounty of Wintry white goodness that has blanketed Vermont, I’ve been able to greatly increase my training load through the use of cross training. Activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing, upright rowing machine and boot/snow running all work my cardiovascular system without any impact or adding to the repetitive stressors of running. Continue reading

Winter Running Tips to Keep You Safe, Warm and Happy
Now that my injuries are healing up I’m back out there running in the cold. It’s hard enough to get yourself started again after a layoff, but doing so when the days are short, cold and dark can be a real challenge. I find that the hardest part of running (or any type of training) in the Winter is getting yourself out the door. Here are some tips to get you out there in the worst weather with a smile on your face. Continue reading

Tim VanOrden’s Running Raw Times – September 17th, 2010
In 1804, the explorers Lewis and Clark set out on a mission to find a gentle passage to the west coast which ended successfully in Oregon. Two hundred and six years later, I find myself on a similar mission – to find a gentle passage that brings my message into the hearts and minds of mainstream America. Continue reading

On The Road Again
The road is a wonderful place to find yourself. At the moment, I find myself on the road to Chicago for the Green Synergy Festival. My tour of the Pacific Northwest was a great success and I look forward to keeping in touch with the many new friends and co-conspirators I met along the way. Continue reading

Growing Pains
I am grateful. I am grateful that the Running Raw Project continues to grow and exceed my expectations. I am grateful for the endless stream of emails from people around the world telling me how this project has affected them in a positive way or helped them to change their lives. I am grateful that I get to do what I love. So why am I so stressed and overwhelmed? Continue reading

The Year in Review?
Many people think that I live a charmed life. I get to run, hike, race, travel, talk to people and basically do whatever I want. What could be better? In many regards this is true. I have chosen to pursue something that I believe in strongly, something that I believe can make a difference. There is great freedom in that choice. But there is also great responsibility and sacrifice… Continue reading →
