Getting Started #56 – Perfectionism
It’s been a rough day at the end of a rough week. After slowly dying for the past two years, my trusty computer finally exhaled it’s final breath. Since a great deal of what I do takes place on the computer, this put me in a panic. I know this state well, as I’ve spent good portions of my adult life dealing with overwhelm, anxiety and panic. Continue reading

How to Eliminate ‘Runner’s Knee’ Pain
Today I want to share my success story in dealing with ‘runner’s knee’ pain. Many runners experience pain and swelling in the knee after long runs or high mileage increases. The most common cause of this pain is a condition known as patellofemoral syndrome, more commonly known as runner’s knee. This pain is caused by the knee cap rubbing on the sides of the femoral groove (at the base of the femur bone). This rubbing causes swelling and inflammation. Continue reading

Zero Calorie Sweeteners & Weight Gain – Health News
I’ve also decided to start a new video series which covers the latest breaking news in the world of nutrition. I’m calling it ‘Nutrition News’ 🙂
In this segment, I discuss a new study out of the University of California in San Diego that appeared in the Journal of Physiology and Behavior which looked at zero calorie sweeteners and their effects on the brain and weight gain. Continue reading
USA 50k Trail Running Championships – Video
The USA 50k Trail Running Championships were held on September 22nd, 2012 at Mt. Bachelor in the Cascade Mountains of central Oregon. USA Track & Field holds USA Trail Championships at a wide variety of distances. Over the past 3 years, I have had great success in these championship races from 10k to the marathon, winning nine US Masters titles… But I’ve never done a 50k… and I was really nervous. Continue reading

Don’t Let Insecurity Hold You Back
While on a road trip to the Seacoast of New Hampshire, I stumbled upon some insights into my past and it’s effect on my current behavior. I’ll admit it, I’m an information junkie… I’m passionately curious. But where does this curiosity and quest for knowledge come from? I’m pretty sure that it comes from my feeling of academic insecurity that I developed in college. Continue reading
Falling in Love… With Running
Do you love doing the things that you are committed to? Or do you simply feel pressured and obligated to do them because of a commitment you’ve made? Many people find themselves committed to routines that they don’t enjoy, and they seldom step back and allow themselves to view the activity from a distance and new perspective… to see the forest, rather than the leaves on the trees. Continue reading

The Little Death – How To Get Through Fall Without Falling
After a wonderful trip to Los Angeles I find myself back in Vermont, where I’m greeted by a brilliant display of Fall color. While the vast majority of the tourists clogging the arteries of the state see the foliage as sublime and poetic, I see it in another light… Or should I say ‘in another dark.’ Continue reading
