Weekly Training – 12/27/10 – 01/02/11

Thanks to the bounty of Wintry white goodness that has blanketed Vermont, I’ve been able to greatly increase my training load through the use of cross training. Activities such as cross country skiing, snowshoeing, upright rowing machine and boot/snow running all work my cardiovascular system without any impact or adding to the repetitive stressors of running. Tim VanOrden’s Running Raw Times – June 17th, 2010

Growing Pains
I am grateful. I am grateful that the Running Raw Project continues to grow and exceed my expectations. I am grateful for the endless stream of emails from people around the world telling me how this project has affected them in a positive way or helped them to change their lives. I am grateful that I get to do what I love. So why am I so stressed and overwhelmed? Continue reading

Tim VanOrden’s Running Raw Times – March 5th, 2010

The Year in Review?
Many people think that I live a charmed life. I get to run, hike, race, travel, talk to people and basically do whatever I want. What could be better? In many regards this is true. I have chosen to pursue something that I believe in strongly, something that I believe can make a difference. There is great freedom in that choice. But there is also great responsibility and sacrifice… Continue reading

Crave the Blizzard

Upon transitioning from the winter wonderland of Vermont into New York’s more temperate Hudson Valley, a color flashed into my mind – Brown. Brown as in dead grass, leafless trees and leaf covered forest floors. Brown as in no snow. The only white to be seen were the sparsely placed, white washed colonial farm houses that decorated my morning’s drive…. Continue reading

I Love Woodford Snowshoe Race

The rains may have washed away the snow in the rest of New England, but up on Woodford Mountain, the snow was heavy and deep. Perfect conditions for the first of the 2010 Dion Snowshoes WMAC Snowshoe Series… Continue reading

Tim VanOrden’s Running Raw Times – March 22nd, 2008

A good soldier will march all day long for the right leader or cause. If you were to ask them if they minded the monotony and physical labor of such a task, I’m sure they would almost all respond with “yes, I mind”. But a good soldier does what they are supposed to do, even when it bothers, exhausts or frightens them. Continue reading

Climb Tampa – 42 floors in Shower Shoes

My original intent on traveling to Tampa, FL was to compete in the Climb Tampa race up the 42 storey US Bank Plaza. As plans for the trip evolved, the race took back seat to all of the other events that had been planned for me. The heel injuries that I had sustained two weeks earlier prevented me from wearing any type of shoes other than flip flops or shower shoes Continue reading

Northern Vermont SnOWshoe Championships

In the 3 months that I’ve been in Vermont, I’ve done very little exploring in the state. So when a qualifier for the US Snowshoe Championships was scheduled for Smugglers Notch Ski Area in northern Vermont, I thought this would be a great opportunity to get reacquainted with my home state. Continue reading
